Where others are hidden, preserved, or taken, Edris is the one who stays behind.
Not to guard.
Not to protect.
But to witness what continues to grow.
There is no urgency in her presence.
No reaching.
Only a quiet awareness of everything that has been placed that has been placed within the garden--and everything that has not yet been taken.
She does not search for meaning within the garden. She is part of what gives it shape.
There is nothing uncertain in her.
Only knowing,.
This piece is a sculptural painting, combining a hand-sculpted face with a painted form and environment.
Botanical elements emerge around her- not as decoration, but as something that has grown alongside her over time.
The surface shifts subtly in light--matte in some areas, softly reflective in others.
She is not meant to feel new.
She is meant to feel as through she has always been there.
