I love the library or a book store. There's something about the smell, the feel of the paper, the beautiful covers on the books. So I decided to create characters based on the genres in the library or book store. What would they look like? Meet Molly, the pirate. She is part of the Adventure genre. She has many tales to tell! She was hand sculpted from epoxy clay, a two-part clay that dries hard as a rock, over an armature. Her green lantern lights the dark ship deck while she scans for sea monsters! I gave her a red pirate coat because the pirates all coveted the red fabric. It was the most expensive to dye at the time and the wide cuffs that buttoned back were all the rage with gentleman. She has beautiful brass buttons all the way down her coat and two big caps at the shoulders (formally vintage earrings). Both of her ears are pierced with gold hoops. Pirates in those days believed that piercing the ears with precious metal could cure sea sickness. Her pirate hat has a vintage jewlery piece that is perfect for the feather in her hat! The braids in her hair contain various brass beads. The chain at her waist contains a compas, a bottle of magic, and of course the standard bottle of run! There is also a beautiful decorative bell. Her bookshelf skirt contains books of adventure. She is painted in many layers of acrylics, and oil paint and sealed her with love and magic! I put a lot of time and love into her and I hope that you will love her as much as I do!
